TIPS FOR DRIVING SAFELY IN BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS

There are reports of a severe storm expected to hit some parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) this week. These adverse weather conditions can lead to road accidents, so it is important to be vigilant.

Residents are advised to exercise caution when driving in bad weather conditions. Here are some tips to ensure your safety:

  • Avoid loud music, as it can distract you while driving.
  • Get enough rest before you drive, as concentration is crucial in severe weather.
  • Inspect your vehicle, including checking your car tyres, fluids, and wiper blades to ensure they are working.
  • Always carry a spare tyre and the necessary tools to change it if needed.
  • Check all mirrors, headlights and turn signals.
  • Ensure you have enough fuel for your planned journey.
  • Listen to road or traffic updates on the radio while travelling.
  • Exercise patience; if you are in a rush, resist the urge to crossroads that are closed, as this will put your life in danger. Wait until the traffic is clear.
  • Make sure your phone is fully charged so you can call for help if you are stranded.
